Fiscal Sponsorship Training for Projects

I’m a longtime participant with, and supporter of, the Bar Association of San Francisco’s Community Organization Representation Project (CORP). I’m also a big fan of, and regular writer on, fiscal sponsorship done right. So, it was great to learn about the following free webinar from CORP on Friday, July 18th from 1-2:30 pm (PDT): “Fiscal Sponsorship 101: Understanding Your Rights and Protecting Your Project” (details below).

Since 1996, CORP provides pro bono assistance to Northern California nonprofit organizations, and those seeking to acquire nonprofit status, that provide direct services to low-income and underserved people. We assist these organizations, which do not have sufficient funds to pay attorneys, in the following areas: employment law, corporate governance and structuring, commercial leases, reinstatement with IRS, risk management, intellectual property and business contract issues.

Webinar

Fiscally sponsored projects face unique vulnerabilities when their sponsor organization encounters financial distress or other challenges. This webinar will provide practical guidance for nonprofit projects navigating fiscal sponsorship relationships, with a focus on understanding their options when the relationship encounters roadblocks and building stronger protections for the future.

What we’ll cover:

  • Understanding the landscape – How fiscal sponsorship works and what happens when sponsors fail
  • Making sense of a difficult situation – Options and realistic expectations about recovery
  • Building better agreements – What to look for in a fiscal sponsor agreement that can protect your project in the future
  • Planning ahead – Questions to ask potential sponsors and due diligence that can prevent future problems

This session is designed for leaders, board members, and staff of fiscally sponsored [organizations/projects] who want to better understand their rights and build more resilient sponsorship relationships moving forward.
