Nonprofit Tweets of the Week – 10/1/21

Stay informed of the week’s notable events and shared resources with this curated list of Nonprofit Tweets of the Week.

Notable Events of the Week:

  • “Senate Democrats and Republicans on Thursday approved a measure to fund the government into early December, putting lawmakers one step close toward staving off a shutdown that is set to occur after midnight. … The votes ultimately tee up the House to consider and adopt the government funding measure before the end of the day, sparing what would have been a potentially destabilizing shutdown during the coronavirus pandemic.” Washington Post
  • “Treasury Secretary Janet L. Yellen on Tuesday told Congress that the United States will run out of flexibility to avoid breaching the debt limit on Oct. 18, setting a new deadline for lawmakers. … As the path forward on Capitol Hill remained unclear, Yellen warned that failure to raise the debt ceiling could have catastrophic consequences. … Economists have said that the U.S. economy would be plunged into an economic recession if the debt ceiling were breached. A report by Moody’s Analytics found that a default could cost the economy roughly 6 million jobs and wipe out as much as $15 trillion in household wealth.” Washington Post
  • “A liberal revolt left Democrats short of votes, but leaders insisted they would bring up the measure again on Friday, giving them more time to reach a deal on a separate climate and safety net bill.” NY Times
