Significant Events:

  • “But in his second administration, President Donald Trump is not just approaching climate science with skepticism. Instead, his administration is moving to destroy the methods by which his or any future administration can respond to climate change. … His Environmental Protection Agency announced plans this week to declare that greenhouse gas emissions do not endanger humans, a move meant to pull the rug out from under nearly all environmental regulation related to the climate.” CNN
  • “After months of delay and back room dealmaking, the Trump administration has imposed sweeping tariffs on nearly 100 countries, sending U.S. import duties soaring to their highest levels in nearly a century. … But this doubling of tariffs, basically doubling from what we saw in June, the effective tariff rate, that is not only going to add to another increase in prices, which we’re only beginning to see the early signs of right now, but also the tariffs are so large that they also squeeze profit margins and that means cost-cutting or layoffs.” PBS News
  • “Israel’s security cabinet has approved a plan to take over Gaza City, Benjamin Netanyahu’s office has said, marking another escalation in the 22-month offensive that has killed tens of thousands of Palestinians, destroyed most of Gaza and pushed the territory into famine. … The announcement, which came amid reports of an Israeli troop buildup on the Gaza border, was greeted with widespread international outrage including a declaration from Germany that it would halt arms supplies for Israel’s campaign in Gaza.” Guardian
