Nonprofit Resources of the Week curates timely articles, tools, and commentary to help nonprofit organizations, their leaders, and their advisors stay informed about legal developments, sector trends, and emerging issues affecting the nonprofit and philanthropic ecosystem, including those related to equity, climate change, and resilience. The series also seeks to share tools, perspectives, and sources of inspiration that support more effective, thoughtful, and sustainable nonprofit leadership, and that help those working for and with nonprofits carry out their roles with greater confidence, efficiency, and purpose.

Sponsored (Ted Cruz) — S.3942 – A bill to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to provide that 501(c)(3) organizations are liable for the use of funding provided as a fiscal sponsor. [Ed. It’s a bill worth being aware of, and fiscal sponsors should be vigilant about seeing where this bill goes from here, but I don’t believe that compliant fiscal sponsors should lose sleep over this since it is drafted in a way that indicates it was not sufficiently researched and may be just another tool to chill dissent regardless of whether it has a chance to pass into law.]

Significant Events:
- “The United States has gone to war against Iran. America has only one ally—Israel—in this operation (the Arab states of the Gulf, which fear the Iranian regime, are targets of Iran, but so far are not participating in the attack), and both Washington and Jerusalem are making claims about “imminent” threats that require “preemptive” strikes. But we should dispense with such statements: Iran is not presenting immediate danger to the United States or Israel. … It is a war of choice, a discretionary war. It is a war for regime change.” Atlantic
- “Anthropic learned that the Pentagon still wanted to use the company’s AI to analyze bulk data collected from Americans. That could include information such as the questions you ask your favorite chatbot, your Google search history, your GPS-tracked movements, and your credit-card transactions, all of which could be cross-referenced with other details about your life. … CEO Sam Altman had said that like Anthropic, OpenAI would also refuse to allow its models to be used in autonomous weapon systems. But as he made those statements, Altman was in the midst of negotiating a new deal with the Pentagon, which was announced just hours after Anthropic’s deal fell apart.” Atlantic
- “Documents Reveal a Web of Financial Ties Between Trump Officials and the Industries They Help Regulate ProPublica is releasing a trove of disclosure records that detail the finances of more than 1,500 Trump appointees, including former lobbyists, industry executives and at least a dozen officials who declined to identify former clients.” Pro Publica
