Trump Team Plans IRS Overhaul to Enable Pursuit of Left-Leaning Groups: Effort would install Trump ally at agency’s criminal unit who has drawn up list of investigative targets (Brian Schwartz, Richard Rubin, and Joel Schectman, Wall Street Journal)

The effort within the IRS coincides with a larger administration effort to probe left-leaning groups for helping to finance organizations that the president says are creating anarchy in Democratic-led cities. … The IRS-CI is a formidable tool. It has more than 2,000 agents, investigates potential criminal violations of the tax code, and assists other agencies in combating financial crime. It is the part of the IRS where agents often carry firearms … Trump’s allies zeroed in on using the IRS-CI after encountering obstacles in a separate effort to strip tax-exempt status from certain nonprofits, according to current and former officials.

Good Vibes:

John Candy: I Like Me (film) [As someone who grew up in Canada, I love pointing out to friends (or anyone who will listen) the disproportionately high number of famous and talented male Canadian comedians and female Canadian singers. Candy is at the top of list … the first one, of course. My mom met John Candy while his movie Who’s Harry Crumb? was filming in her salon (Suki’s). Maybe not one of his best, but there are some funny bits. She said he was very nice and hinted at getting an invitation for a home-cooked meal when hearing that she was taking cooking classes from a local celebrity chef. Not knowing who he was, she politely declined. Aaargh!]
